How to make a simple business plan?

In a business plan, you describe who you are as an entrepreneur and what product or service you want to sell. You also explain how you are going to market it and how you will finance your business. The business plan example includes an useful template that you can use. In short, your business plan should include:

  • A description of you and your business
  • The marketing plan
  • The financial plan

A description of you and your business

In the business plan example on our website, we ask various questions that can help you further explain your motivation. You will find the following:

  • Enter your, and possibly your partners', personal information and relevant work experience in the template of the business plan example
  • Then explain your and/or your partners' motivation to start your own business
  • Analyze your strengths and weaknesses, discover which entrepreneurial skills you already have and which weaknesses you can improve.

The marketingplan

In the marketing plan, you provide more practical information about your business. You describe how you want to respond to the market and how you will achieve your revenue goals.

In the business plan example, we ask for more information about your business. Think of your trade name, Chamber of Commerce number (if you already have one), your insurances, etc.

Then you describe your idea, dream, or plan. Call it what you want, but describe it well. It is the core of your business plan. Think about questions like:

  • What are you going to do?
  • Why are you going to do it, and why will your idea be a great success?
  • How are you going to tackle it?

E-learning

In the business plan example, there are various questions in this section that help you to fill in your marketing plan as well as possible. Do you need more help? Then follow the e-learning business plan writing.

Describe the mission and vision of your company here. What do you want to achieve, and what do you stand for? In the business plan example, there will also be other questions that can further guide you with this section.

In this section, describe how you will promote your business or product using a marketing strategy. For this, you will use the marketing mix and describe the following five components:

  • Product: Describe your product or service that you will be selling.
  • Price: Describe the price of your product or service.
  • Place and Distribution: Describe the location of your business.
  • Promotion: Describe how you will promote your business to your target audience.
  • Personnel: Describe whether you will work alone or hire staff for your business.

Know the market in which you want to operate. In this section, describe how the market and the industry are developing. Consider local and national (market) developments and trends. Also, describe your target audience and their characteristics. Finally, it is important to identify your competitors. Who are they? What do they do? And how will you differentiate yourself from your competitors? In the business plan example, there are also helpful questions that can further guide you with this section.

In the first section, "Who are you," you already conducted an internal analysis of yourself, identifying your strengths and weaknesses. In the previous section of the marketing plan, you conducted the external analysis, allowing you to recognize the opportunities and threats in the market you want to operate in. You now bring all this together in a SWOT analysis. Describe how you, as an entrepreneur, will manage all these points. You can use the table provided in the business plan example for this!

The financial plan

One of the most important, or perhaps the most important, part of business plan is the financial plan. This plan is a numerical translation of your business idea. You think step by step about financial components of the business plan, such as a:

  • Investment budget
  • Financing budget
  • Operating budget
  • Liquidity budget

We have developed a template that helps you create a complete financial plan.
